Grant got off to a dismal start, fumbling the opening kickoff. . . . Birmingham receiver Hassan Gay outraced the defense on the next play to catch a 25-yard touchdown pass from quarterback Kevin Zeitz. . . . Numerous penalties forced the Braves into a third-and-51 situation with 1:00 remaining in the first half, but Zeitz hit Mike Flores near the sideline and he raced for a 53-yard touchdown and a 21-0 halftime lead. . . . On the first play from scrimmage in the third quarter, Flores broke through the Lancer line and ran untouched 65 yards for the Braves’ last score. KEY PLAYERS Mike Flores (B) carried 10 times for 105 yards and 2 touchdowns. . . . Kevin Zeitz completed 4 of 9 for 80 yards and 1 touchdown. . . . Defensive end Aaron Kaplan (B) led the shutout with 2 sacks for 28 yards. . . . Linebackers Shawn Stewart (B) and Andre Gonzalez (B) each intercepted passes. . . . Quarterback Stephen Mack (G) completed 11 of 19 passes for 102 yards.

Correction:
Birmingham quarterback Kevin Zietz completed 5 of 10 passes for 133 yards and 2 touchdowns in Friday night’s 28-0 win over Grant.
The Times reported in its Saturday editions that Zietz was 4 of 9 for 80 yards and 1 TD. His 53-yard touchdown pass to Mike Flores in the second quarter was inadvertently omitted.
