Western High School rallied from a 12-point deficit Friday night to earn a 12-12 tie with Los Amigos in a nonleague played before 1,000 in Garden Grove Stadium.
Mark Klump recovered a fumbled punt at the 6-yard line of Los Amigos with 3:04 to play to set up the tying touchdown. Quarterback Rick Lodding hit wide receiver Jim Howell in the right corner of the end zone to make it 12-12. However, Rick Mickles’ extra-point attempt was wide to the right.
The first half was dominated by Los Amigos (1-2-1) with Jim Brandon doing all the work. Brandon caught a 26-yard touchdown pass early in the second quarter to give the Lobos a 6-0 lead and 1:15 later intercepted a Lodding pass and returned it 37 yards for another score and a 12-0 halftime lead.
