Local News in Brief : Driver Swerves to Miss Traffic, Dies in Crash
A Tarzana motorist was killed when he swerved to avoid traffic on a busy Van Nuys street and struck a light standard and fire hydrant before slamming into a wall, Los Angeles police reported Monday.
Ricardo Villarobos, 33, was eastbound at about 60 m.p.h. in the 16600 block of Vanowen Street at about 8 p.m. Sunday when he swerved to the right to avoid slower traffic and ran off the road, Officer Rick Vigil said.
Villarobos, who was driving a 1985 Mercedes-Benz, died of head and chest injuries shortly after 9 p.m. at Northridge Hospital Medical Center, Vigil said.
