Quarterback Josh Davis passed for 231 yards in the first half, including a pair of short touchdown passes in the second quarter, to lead Pierce College to a 17-14 victory Saturday over West L.A.

The Brahmas (7-2 overall, 4-0 in conference), who will face Valley College in next week’s Southern California Conference championship game, overcame numerous turnovers and penalties.

“We got lucky today, but I’ll take it,” Pierce Coach Jim Fenwick said. “We are not by far a complete team yet. If we don’t play well against Valley next week, we’ll definitely get beat.”

West L.A. (6-3, 3-2) opened the scoring early in the first quarter on running back Darrell Meadoh’s three-yard touchdown run, seven plays after Pierce running back Tyrone Beaulieu lost a fumble on his 25-yard line.

Davis--who completed 13 of 23 passes in the first half and finished with 18 for 37 and 259 yards--hit wide receiver Anthony Sargent from four yards out and tight end Mark Schrater from two yards before Ross Hirsch gave the Brahmas a 17-7 halftime lead with a 34-yard field goal. Meadoh scored West L.A.’s other touchdown with 11:13 left in the game on a six-yard run.
