Torrey Pines Will Face Poway for 3-A Tennis Championship

SAN DIEGO — Torrey Pines and Poway high schools, which split two regular-season matches and tied for the Palomar League championship, will play for the San Diego Section 3-A girls’ tennis final at 2:30 today at Morley Field.
Top-seeded Torrey Pines (20-1) beat fourth-seeded Mira Mesa (14-3), 6-1, in a semifinal match at Bishop’s.
Poway (17-3), seeded second, beat No. 3 Valhalla (19-2), 5-2, in the other semifinal, at Rancho Bernardo Inn.
Tina Trumbull of Torrey Pines led a Falcon sweep of singles against Mira Mesa. Also winning in singles were Erin Helm, Lisa Weisman and Celine Thompson.
