Baron Tournament Draws 8 Teams

Long Beach Millikan and St. Anthony high schools are the co-favorites in the Baron basketball tournament, which begins Dec. 9 at Fountain Valley High.
Millikan is led by 6-foot 4-inch forwards Kenny Jarvis and Ed Carswell. St. Anthony features Jaime Cardriche, a 6-8, 330-pound center who has signed with Oklahoma State, and sophomore Derrick Martin, one of the top point guards in Southern California.
The eight-team tournament also has four county schools--Servite, El Dorado, Huntington Beach and host Fountain Valley--with Servite considered the best of those schools. Defending champion Ocean View is not entered.
The championship game will be Dec. 13. The first-round pairings:
Dec. 9: 6 p.m.--El Dorado vs. Servite; 7:30--Long Beach Millikan vs. Huntington Beach.
Dec. 11: 6 p.m.--Compton vs. St. Anthony; 7:30--Mira Costa vs. Fountain Valley.
