Mira Costa High Girls Reach State Volleyball Semifinals

Manhattan Beach Mira Costa advanced to the semifinals of the State High School Division I girls’ volleyball tournament Saturday with a 15-7, 15-4, 15-6 victory over City 4-A champion Palisades at Mira Costa. The Mustangs (22-0) have not lost a game since an Oct. 3 match against Santa Monica. Palisades finished 14-2.

Mira Costa, the Southern Section 5-A champion, will play Mountain View of the Central Coast Section in the semifinals on Tuesday at Aviation High in Redondo Beach.

The 5-A runner-up, Newport Harbor, also advanced to the semifinals, defeating 4-A champion Marlborough, 15-10, 15-13, 15-12 at Marlborough. Newport Harbor will travel north Tuesday to play the winner of the Los Altos-Napa match.

Ojai Nordhoff outlasted host Arrowhead Rim of the World in five games, 4-15, 15-12, 15-13, 2-15, 15-10, to advance to the Division II final. Nordhoff will play the winner of the Oakland Holy Names-South San Francisco match.

Anaheim Southern California Christian advanced to the Division III final with a 15-9, 15-1, 15-7 win over San Diego Francis Parker. San Andreas Calaveras will be Southern California Christian’s opponent in the final on Dec. 7 at Golden West College.
