Share

Corona del Mar High School forward Jeff Fryer established a tournament record by scoring 46 points Thursday night to lead the Sea Kings to a 63-51 victory over El Camino of Oceanside in the quarterfinals of the Laguna Beach Tournament.

Fryer, a 6-2 senior, made 18 of 28 field goal attempts and all 10 of his free throw tries to lead Corona del Mar into the semifinals. Former Canyon High star Tim Shaw held the previous tournament mark of 45 points set against Garey in 1975.

“El Camino used a pressing, man-to-man defense, and Jeff used his mobility to get open for a lot of shots,” said Jack Errion, Sea King coach. “It was one of those nights where practically everything he put up went in.”
