Girls’ Basketball Roundup : Edison to Meet Brea-Olinda in Irvine Tournament Final

Senior Christian Wilson scored 21 points and teammate Tammy Burns added 10 to led Edison into the championship finals of the Irvine girls’ basketball tournament with a 57-39 victory over Savanna Friday night in semifinal play.

Edison (3-0) will play Brea-Olinda (3-0) tonight at University High School in the final. The Rebels (2-1) will play Marina for third place before the championship game.

In Artesia Tournament action:

Mater Dei 64, Costa Mesa 26--The Monarchs moved into the second round of the Artesia Tournament with a win over the Mustangs.

Geri Gainey, a junior guard, scored 15 points and Kim Ellerman added 11 points to improve Mater Dei’s record to 3-0.

In the San Gabriel Tournament of Champions:

Ocean View 68, North Bakersfield 52--Forward Trina Vlachos scored 28 points and had 9 rebounds to lead the Seahawks (3-0) into the final.

Center Shelly Straight had 11 rebounds and 6 points, and point guard Dana Douty had eight assists and six rebounds. Ocean View plays Chino in the tournament championship game tonight at 8.

In Fullerton Tournament action:

Valencia 85, Buena Park 43--Ronnette McWeeny, a 6-0 center, scored 15 points to lead the Tigers (2-1) to a win in a fourth-place game. Guards Jenny Wilson and Steffi Strauss scored 14 and 13 points, respectively. Forward Angela Granger scored 10 points before leaving the game with a knee injury. Kelly Hilliard had 15 points to lead the Coyotes (1-2).

In nonleague action:

Magnolia 61, Schurr 58--Senior center Michelle Carter scored 27 points to lead the Sentinals past Schurr.

Orange Luthern 34, Liberty Christian 28--Lorie Pargee and Bev Mueller each had eight points as the Lancers beat the Minutemen at Newport Christian. Shannon Gaston scored 10 points for Liberty Christian (0-1). Orange Luthern is 2-0.
