Valley Christian, El Rancho, La Mirada Stand Out : 3 Schools Dominate All-Southeast

Four players each from Olympic League champion Valley Christian and Whitmont League titlist El Rancho and three players from Suburban League co-champion La Mirada dominate The Times’ 1985 All-Southeast team.

Offensive lineman Scott Krosschell, running back Rodney Bowman and linebackers Steve King and Mike Taylor led Valley Christian to a 12-1 record.

El Rancho was undefeated in league play en route to the second round of the Eastern Conference playoffs. Its first-team selections are offensive linemen Javier Calderon and Rudy Garay, defensive lineman Victor Vasquez and linebacker Robert Garcia.

Center Robert Stephens, running back Kelly Brooks and defensive lineman Scott Hager made the first team for their efforts in leading La Mirada to the second round of the Central Conference playoffs.

Brooks rushed for 2,003 yards and scored 28 touchdowns. Bowman ran for 1,636 yards and scored 28 TDs. The third running back on the first team, Rene Barton of Whittier, gained 1,725 yards and scored nine TDs.

The first-team quarterback is Eric Rubalcava of Schurr, who threw for 2,871 yards and 27 TDs as Schurr (11-2) advanced to the second round of the Coastal Conference playoffs.

Wide receiver Frank Mazzotta of St. Paul (24 receptions, 594 yards, 8 TDs), tight end Rory Ewing of Pius X (25-311, 4 TDs) and offensive lineman Steve Baker of Norwalk complete the first-team offensive selections.

Linebacker Feliberto Navarro of Pius X, lineman Anderson Maae of Bell Gardens and defensive backs Miguel Ramirez of St. Paul, Reggie Kennedy of Bellflower and Hubert Turner of Schurr complete the first-team defense.

Waldir Guerra of Bell was selected as first-team kicker.
