SAN DIEGO — Teams in the Grossmont League haven’t received much attention throughout this high school basketball season. Instead, the City Eastern League, with five ranked teams, and the North County, with Poway and El Camino, have received most of the attention.
But that may be changing. Mount Miguel, with a victory Friday night over Santana, improved its record to 10-5 and moved into this week’s Times Top 10 at No. 9. The first-place Matadors, led by first-year coach-year Art Edge, are 7-1 in league and lead El Capitan by a half-game.
Mount Miguel, which doesn’t have a player among the county’s top 25 scorers, has won six straight games. LaVon Reis scored 14 points to lead the Matadors past Santana Friday.
While Mount Miguel moved up, there were few other changes in this week’s rankings. Poway (12-3) remained on top ahead of El Camino (14-2).
Here’s this week’s Times Top 10:
Pos. School (League) Record 1. Poway (Palomar) 12-3
2. El Camino (Avocado) 14-2
3. Morse (City Eastern) 9-3
