Orange County Boys’ Basketball Roundup : Mater Dei Just Keeps Rolling Along, Scores 49th Straight Victory

Center LeRon Ellis scored 24 points and senior forward Stuart Thomas added 23 Wednesday night to lead Mater Dei High School (5-0, 20-0) to its 49th straight victory, a 79-52 win over Bishop Amat at Santa Ana.

The Monarchs dominated play in the early going, gaining a 20-5 lead at the end of the first quarter and 35-14 lead at the half, dashing any upset hopes the Lancers may have had in a hurry.

The key to the Monarchs’ first-half run was their shooting, which was 30 of 55 from the floor on the night. They also outrebounded the Lancers, 36-17.

Guard Stephen Pace led Bishop Amat (1-4, 8-10) with 18 points, while forward Brian Kelly added 14 for the Lancers.
