Leg Injury Forces Yoxtheimer to Quit Cypress High Team

Chris Yoxtheimer, one of the Empire League’s top basketball players, has quit Cypress High School’s team, according to Centurion Coach Ron Craig.

Yoxtheimer, a 6-foot 7-inch senior center, had been playing with a temporary steel plate in his lower right leg, which was broken in a game early last season.

“Apparently, the pain just got too great,” Craig said. “Nobody knows how bad it felt except him.”

Yoxtheimer had worked hard to rehabilitate himself during the past year. Although he was advised to have the plate surgically removed several months ago, he decided to postpone the operation in order not to play his senior season, Craig said.

Craig said his team, which has a 7-3 record and is in fourth place in the league standings, took the loss of the talented center “very hard.”

Yoxtheimer averaged 14.6 points and 10.4 rebounds per game.
