John Balfanz slugged three home runs and drove in six runs to lead Cal State Northridge to a 16-9 win over Azusa Pacific. The nonconference game was called with an inning left to play because of darkness.

Balfanz, a sophomore from West High in Bakersfield, was 4 for 6 and scored three runs. His three homers tied the Northridge record for home runs in a game, which was set by Rondal Rollin against Cal Poly San Luis Obispo in 1980.

Randy Cina picked up the victory, allowing three runs in 4 innings of relief. Cina, a left-hander, is a transfer from Brigham Young.
