Golden West Sweeps a Pair in Softball
Golden West College opened its softball season Saturday with a pair of victories at Bakersfield. The Rustlers beat College of the Sequoias, 10-5, then edged Bakersfield, 3-2.
The Rustlers scored four times in the second inning and five times in the fourth in the first game. Golden West pitcher Lisa Brady helped herself by getting two hits, scoring a run and knocking in three runs. She went the distance, throwing a four-hitter.
Trailing by a run in the second game, the Rustlers scored twice in the top of the seventh to beat the Renegades. They loaded the bases on two pinch-singles and a bunt single. Kelly Winkler followed with a sacrifice fly to tie the score, 2-2, and pitcher Stephanie Rowlett grounded into a fielder’s choice to drive in the winning run.
