SPRING SPORTS HIGHLIGHTS : CSUN Extends Scoreless-Inning Streak

The Cal State Northridge women’s softball team Wednesday swept a doubleheader from UC Davis, 3-0, 7-0.

In the opener, Northridge scored on unearned runs in the second and third innings. Kim Bernstein had two hits and scored one run for the Lady Matadors. CSUN has not given up a run in 26 innings.

Delanee Anderson (2-1) pitched a one-hitter in the second game. The only Aggie hit came in the fourth inning on an infield single by Linda Wilson.

Northridge (6-3) has won four straight games. Davis is 1-3.

JC Baseball

West L.A. 7, Moorpark 6--A four-run fifth inning propelled the Oilers to a nonleague victory in Culver City.

Moorpark, which left 11 men on base, was led by sophomore third baseman Dennis Mihelic, who had a home run, single and two RBIs. West L.A. is 2-1, Moorpark 2-3.

High School Baseball

Newbury Park 19, Santa Ynez 4--Winning pitcher Danny Richmond (1-0) had two hits and knocked in three runs to lead the Panthers to a consolation semifinal win in the Ventura County tournament.

Teammates Jeff Campbell (home run), Jeff Dewey (3 RBIs) and Bob Cook (2 RBIs) sparked the Newbury Park offense. Santa Ynez walked 12 Panther batters.

The Panthers are 2-1.

Rio Mesa 12, Thousand Oaks 1--The Spartans scored seven runs in the fourth inning and coasted to a win in the semifinal round of the Ventura County tournament.

Rio Mesa plays Hueneme today in the championship final.

The Spartans were led on offense by catcher Rick Pena, who was 2 for 3 with a double and 4 RBIs. Phil Maguinalez went 2 for 3 and had 2 RBIs.

Keith DeLatorre pitched the first four innings and picked up the win for Rio Mesa (2-0). He allowed 1 run on 5 hits and had 5 strikeouts.

Thousand Oaks is 2-1.

Camarillo 11, St. Bonaventure 3--The Scorpions scored four runs in the first inning on their way to a win in the consolation bracket of the Ventura County tournament.

Agoura 17, Oak Park 8--The Chargers opened the season with a non-league victory over Oak Park.

Bobby Weer hit a two-run home run to key a seven-run second inning for Agoura. Jon DeGennaro, an All-Frontier League selection last season, allowed only one hit in four innings.

High School Volleyball

Harvard def. Glendale, 15-8, 15-3, 15-8--John Phelps had 17 kills to lead Harvard in the Saracens’ first victory of the season.
