Mission Viejo, Edison Play to 1-1 Tie, Share 4-A Girls Soccer Title
Mission Viejo and Huntington Beach Edison High Schools played to a 1-1 overtime tie in the Southern Section 4-A girls’ soccer championship game Friday night at Gahr High.
The teams were declared co-champions, and top-seeded Edison remained unbeaten with a 25-0-3 record. Mission Viejo finished at 22-3-3.
Sophomore forward Kerri Kennedy gave Mission Viejo a 1-0 lead 13:40 into the match, but Edison senior midfielder Janell Rogers countered with a goal five minutes later.
In the 4-A boys’ final, Cucamonga Alta Loma High School got a goal from junior midfielder Tim Sowers just 40 seconds into the second half, then rode the goalkeeping of junior Michael Collins to a 1-0 upset victory over previously unbeaten Simi Valley.
