Brea-Olinda Coach Lloyd Announces His Resignation

Gene Lloyd, who coached Brea-Olinda High School to seven Orange League basketball titles in 12 seasons, has announced his resignation.
Lloyd will be replaced by assistant Rick Jones.
Lloyd, 48, compiled a 233-93 record, and his teams qualified for 10 CIF Southern Section playoff berths. He led the Wildcats to a school-record 25 wins this year and a berth in the 3-A division semifinals.
“It was time to quit,” Lloyd said. “I don’t have a specific reason. It was enough. I feel like circumstances have changed, and I’ve changed.”
Lloyd informed his team of his decision on Wednesday night during halftime of the Wildcats’ playoff loss to Ganesha. He said he made the decision last November.
The Wildcats won 20 or more games in six of Lloyd’s seasons. Brea lost in the first or second round of the playoffs in five straight seasons before ending the jinx this year.
