San Diego Prep Baseball : Scales’ Slam Leads Escondido, 10-1

Nick Scales’ grand slam in the first inning led Escondido’s High baseball team to a 10-1 win over San Dieguito, 1 in the second day of the Warhawk tournament.

San Dieguito’s only run came on a Steve Nevett’s homer in the fourth inning. Escondido’s Arnie Spiker went the distance to earn his first win of the season.

Both teams are 1-1. In other Warhawk tournament action:

Bonita Vista 9, Vista 4--Sparked by Jimmy Werner’s leadoff triple, Bonita Vista scored four runs in the first inning. The Panthers outhit Bonita Vista, 11-8, but Vista could not put together a big inning.

Bonita Vista Paul Harris pitched five innings for the win.

Point Loma 12, Hoover 2--Kelley Schlager’s solo home run in the third inning broke a 2-2 tie and gave the Pointers their second win of the tournament at Madison High. Point Loma added six runs in the fourth inning. Winning pitcher Chris Reading gave up four hits, struck out eight and walked one in seven innings. Jud Franklin, J.J. Northam and Jim Brahser had two hits apiece for the Pointers, who finished with 11 hits.

Kearny 13, Madison 6--Kearny took advantage of seven Warhawk errors. The game was halted after five innings because of the rain. Scot Welish pitched the first three innings for the Komets to pick up the win.
