SPRING SPORTS HIGHLIGHTS : Doering Wins for Simi Lutheran

Share

If Simi Lutheran’s Jonathan Doering has a few more games like the one he had Friday against Viewpoint, the senior pitcher and shortstop will have to endure some sleepless nights.

Just hours after throwing a one-hitter and blasting two home runs in a 16-1 Heritage League victory for the Barons, Cal Lutheran College basketball Coach Ed Anderson was at the Doering’s home attempting to convince Jonathan to play basketball for the Kingsmen.

Bob Doering, Jonathan’s father, is the athletic director at Cal Lutheran, but his son isn’t certain where he will attend college.

“My main sport is basketball,” said Doering, who averaged 25 points a game for Simi Lutheran’s basketball team. “It’s going to be a very difficult decision between the two sports.”

For now, however, his mind is on baseball, where the Barons are 4-1 overall and 3-1 in league.

Doering (2-1), who struck out 15, has thrown 18 consecutive innings without allowing an earned run. The Patriots’ only run, which came in the first, was unearned.

Nate Milone provided the key blow in the Knights’ second-inning outburst with a grand slam. Teammate Roger Nix was 4 for 5 with three RBIs.
