Trevor Wilson, who led the Cleveland High boys team to the City 4-A championship, and Stacy Parson, who directed Kennedy to the girls City 4-A title, were named Valley-area players of the year Saturday at The Times’ basketball awards breakfast at the Disneyland Hotel.

Kennedy’s Craig Raub and Simi Valley’s Bob Hawking, whose team reached the Southern Section 4-A championship round, were named the Valley coaches of the year.

Wilson, who was the Valley’s player of the year last season and will attend UCLA in the fall, averaged 25.7 and 15 rebounds for Cleveland. The Cavaliers surprised many by reaching the City final, which they lost, 95-79, to Crenshaw, the eventual Division I state champion.

Parson, a 5-7 senior guard, averaged 21.2 points, 11.2 rebounds and 5.5 assists for the Golden Cougars, who defeated Washington, 61-52, in the title game. Parson will play at Stanford next season.

Raub, who won his second City 4-A title, was named coach of the year for the second straight season. The Golden Cougars were 22-3, giving Raub a record of 150-21 in his eight years as the girls coach at Kennedy.

Hawking took a Pioneer team considered too young by many to the finals, where Simi Valley lost, 58-55. Simi Valley was 27-3 for the year.
