SPRING HIGHLIGHTS : Kennedy Slips Away From Playoff Picture Under Buford’s Bombardment
Damon Buford was 3 for 4 with four runs batted in to lead Birmingham High to an 8-6 victory Tuesday over Kennedy in a Mid-Valley League baseball game.
Birmingham managed only five hits off three Kennedy pitchers, but the defending City 4-A champions committed six fielding errors and several more on the basepaths.
Braves’ sophomore Alan Sedacca pitched six innings and faced three batters in the seventh to record his first win of the season against two losses.
Buford, a second baseman, turned in several good plays in the field to complement his work at the plate. His two-run triple down the right-field line highlighted a four-run fourth for Birmingham.
Buford then scored on a wild pitch by Kennedy starter Al Mayhew.
Kennedy’s lone highlight was Kevin Wittke’s three-run homer in the seventh inning.
Birmingham’s record is 3-4 in league and 11-6 overall. The slumping Golden Cougars are 2-5 in league and fading from the playoff picture.
