Four From Westlake Advance to Southern Section Golf Tournament

Westlake High, fresh off its romp to the Marmonte League title, sends league champion James Kim and three other golfers into Monday’s Southern Section individual tournament at California Country Club in Whittier.

Kim is joined by teammates Chris Zambri, Jimmy Chang and Clyde Clifford in Monday’s event that begins at 7:30 a.m. and features 144 golfers. The Marmonte’s fifth qualifier in the tournament is Simi Valley’s Keith Thykeson.

All five qualified for the Southern Section tournament on the strength of their showing in the four-round league championship, which concluded Friday. Westlake dominated, winning by nearly 100 strokes over second-place Simi Valley. Westlake shot 1,507; Simi Valley had 1,606 and Thousand Oaks was third at 1,654.

The three teams qualified for the Southern Section team regional tournament, which is scheduled for May 13 at Olivas Golf Course in Ventura.

Kim won the Marmonte championship with a four-round score of 291. Thykeson and Zambri tied at 297; Chang was fourth (298) and Clifford was fifth (310).
