Three 75s Put Westlake in Title Round of Southern Section Golf Tournament

With three golfers recording rounds of 75, Westlake High easily extended its season Tuesday at the Southern Section northern regional golf tournament.

Westlake led a field of 25 teams at Olivas Park golf course in Ventura with a score of 381 to advance to Monday’s Southern Section championship. Also qualifying for the title round at La Cumbre Country Club in Santa Barbara were Cabrillo (397) and Agoura (400).

Valley-area teams failing to make the cut were Simi Valley, which tied for fifth at 405, Thousand Oaks (11th, 416), Calabasas (12th, 428), Canyon (13th, 429) and Saugus (15th, 434).

Westlake was led by James Kim, Brodie Munroe and Chris Zambri, who shot 75s, followed by Jimmy Chang (77) and Clyde Clifford (79). Keith Kensel of Crescenta Valley was medalist with a par 72, followed by Bishop Diego’s John Geiberger (73), who is the son of golf pro Al Geiberger.

Simi Valley’s Brent Smith tied for fourth with the Westlake trio at 75.

In Monday’s central regional at El Prado golf course in Chino, Alemany was the third-place qualifier with a 391 behind La Canada (376) and Sunny Hills (384). Sophomore Dave Berganio of Alemany shot a par 72. He was followed by teammates Brian Thomas (78), Roger Metz (79), Peter Muldowney (80) and Tim Gilboy (81).
