A member of the University of California track team was shot to death by a gunman who opened fire from a fast-moving car, according to Oakland police.

Kerry Threets, 21, “might not have been the intended target” of Saturday night’s shooting, according to homicide Lt. Richard Brierly.

Threets, of Daly City, ran both the 400 meters and the 200 meters for the Bears. He won both events in the annual Big Meet against Stanford May 3, taking the 200 in 21.08 seconds and the 400 in 47.17 seconds.
