Pomona police were questioning a suspect in the slaying of an 8-year-old girl whose body was found in a vacant lot behind her house. The victim was identified by officers as Casey Flemming. Police said family members found the girl fully clothed about 50 yards from their house in the 1400 block of Elwood Street on Monday night, after she had been missing for more than an hour. Police provided no information on the suspect or the cause of death. No evidence of a weapon was found, officers said. The victim’s brother, Alex Pedroza, 15, said he had last seen his sister when she was playing basketball with a friend in their backyard, which is separated from the lot by a chain-link fence. He described his sister as friendly, but cautious. “She knew the whole neighborhood, from the old people to the little babies,” Pedroza said.
