College World Series : Arizona Beats Florida State
Mike Senne hit a three-run homer to cap Arizona’s rally from a 5-0 deficit Friday as the Wildcats beat top-ranked Florida State and ace Mike Loynd, 9-5, in the College World Series.
The decision left Arizona as the only unbeaten team in the double-elimination tournament.
Loynd (20-2) had won 17 straight games and was trying to set an NCAA Division I record for victories in a season. Loynd allowed nine hits and left following Senne’s sixth-inning homer.
Fifth-ranked Arizona (48-18) will play defending champion Miami tonight. Florida State (59-12) will face Oklahoma State this afternoon.
Arizona right-hander Gilbert Heredia (16-3) survived 10 Florida State hits to set a school record for victories in a season. The Seminoles didn’t score after Paul Sorrento’s second-inning grand slam.
