Florentine to Play Basketball at UCI

Steve Florentine, who announced this summer he would attend El Camino College, has enrolled at UC Irvine to play basketball for the Anteaters.

A 6-foot 7-inch forward from Redondo Union High School, Florentine averaged 20 points and 10 rebounds for the Seahawks last season and was an All-Southern Section 4-A selection. He was twice selected to the All-Bay League team.

Florentine will receive the scholarship that Coach Bill Mulligan had been reserving for Tom Lewis, the former Mater Dei High School star who played his freshman season at USC before announcing this summer that he would attend UCI. Lewis, however, enrolled at Pepperdine last week.
