PREP FOOTBALL : Canyon Comes From Behind, Beats Corona
Canyon High School rallied from a 9-0 deficit Friday night to defeat Corona, 15-9, in a nonleague game at Corona.
The Comanches scored touchdowns in the second and fourth quarters for the victory.
Ed Washington returned a kickoff 83 yards for the first touchdown to bring the Comanches to within 9-7 at halftime.
Following a scoreless third quarter, Canyon’s Ray Schull scored on a one-yard run in the fourth quarter with what proved to be the winning touchdown.
Canyon’s Dareld Karns ran for the two-point conversion following Schull’s score to account for the final margin of victory.
Corona jumped out to the early lead on a 19-yard second-quarter field goal by Milo Way.
The Panthers increased the lead to 9-0 on an 11-yard run by Scott Gavett, but the extra point attempt failed.
Canyon (1-0) plays host to Capistrano Valley in nonleague game next week.
