Orange Ends Losing Streak in a Mighty Big Way--44-0

Orange High School snapped its 11-game losing streak in style Saturday night with a 44-0 rout of Santiago in a nonleague game in Garden Grove Stadium.

The Orange defense scored the game’s first 15 points, and first-year Coach Mark McMahon was content to let running back Paul Maund overpower Santiago.

Maund rushed for 188 yards and scored two touchdowns on runs of 95 and 26 yards.

With 3:04 left in the first quarter, Santiago punter Francis Chan could only watch the snap sail out of the end zone. On Santiago’s next possession, quarterback Jason Marquez was stripped of the ball on his five-yard line, and linebacker Chris Dunham picked up the ball and ran into the end zone.

On Marquez’s next pass attempt, he threw the ball into the arms of defensive back John Miscovich, who scored from the 26.

Santiago was forced to punt on its next series, and Kerry Reed returned the punt untouched for a 53 yards.

From there, Orange’s offensive line overpowered Santiago, and the Orange defense never allowed Marquez an opportunity to throw the ball.

Marquez missed on his first eight passes and ended up completing only 5 of 18 for 59 yards.

Orange quarterback Mike Stock attempted only five passes, completing one, but ran for a touchdown.
