Oak Park High’s 1986 run-and-shoot offense opened Saturday night and perhaps closed also as Salesian capitalized on seven Eagle turnovers in a 34-3 rout at Roosevelt High.
Salesian controled the game from the start, recovering a fumble on the opening kickoff.
Luis De La Cruz’s interception set up a four-yard scoring run by Kyle Franklin with 5:15 left in the half. Less than two minutes later, Tony Gonzales scored on a 55-yard run after Salesion had again taken the ball away from Oak Park.
Oak Park’s only score came on a 34-yard field goal by Donny Huber with 9:47 left in the third quarter.
Salesian’s final three touchdowns came in the second half with the game already out of reach. Luis Urdiales scored on a 43-yard run and Luis Ovalles returned a fumble 36 yards. The Mustangs’ final score came on a 35-yard pass from Darren Taylor to Adrian Vasquez.
