PREP FOOTBALL : Jonathan Todd Gains 185 Yards as Laguna Beach Beats La Serna
Jonathan Todd’s running sparked Laguna Beach High School to a 21-14 victory over La Serna Friday night at Guyer Field in Laguna Beach.
Todd, who had 248 yards in 20 carries last week in the Artists’ 21-7 victory over El Segundo, ran for 185 yards in 28 carries.
With 4 minutes 1 second left in the first quarter, a 27-yard pass from Danny Lane to Chris Dickerson opened the scoring for Laguna Beach. Ian Vickers’ kick gave the Artists a 7-0 lead.
Todd scored Laguna Beach’s second touchdown on a two-yard run. The 5-foot 10-inch, 210-pound senior set up a score with a 24-yard run. Vickers’ kick was blocked, and the Artists led, 13-0.
La Serna wide receiver John Sung got the Lancers back in the game with a 34-yard catch from quarterback Mike Westmoreland and then kicked the extra point to make it 14-7.
Dave Moss’ one-yard touchdown run early in the fourth quarter and Sung’s kick gave La Serna a 14-13 lead, but Lane’s 25-yard pass to Andy Myers and Todd’s extra-point run gave Laguna Beach the victory.
