Senior quarterback Tom Williamson passed for 197 yards and 2 touchdowns, and senior running back Neil Sorenson carried 18 times for 86 yards Friday night to lead Los Alamitos High School past Gahr, 31-0, in a nonleague game in Hanford Rants Stadium at Cerritos.

Williamson completed the first seven passes he attempted, including a five-yard strike to junior tight end Tim Wynn just five minutes into the game. The touchdown pass concluded an 8-play, 73-yard drive.

Williamson added an 11-yard scoring toss to flanker Rob Nen with 20 seconds remaining in the half that gave Los Alamitos a 21-0 cushion.

Earlier, a 34-yard interception return for a touchdown by defensive back Mike Mullaney put the Griffins in front, 14-0.

Nen finished the game with 5 receptions for 84 yards and a touchdown. Senior wide receiver Ken Montgomery led the team with 8 receptions and 93 yards.

Williamson, who left the game with about eight minutes remaining, completed 15 of 26 passes. He was intercepted once.

In improving its record to 3-0, Los Alamitos recorded its second shutout of the year. The Griffin defense has not allowed a touchdown this season, although it did allow a field goal in a 7-3 victory a week ago against Tustin. Gahr, which has just 14 seniors on a 42-man squad, fell to 0-3.

The Griffins held the Gladiators, who used a two-minute drill on offense most of the game, to 81 yards in total offense. Los Alamitos intercepted two Gladiator quarterbacks four times.

Los Alamitos Coach John Barnes said before the start of the season that he felt that his team had the ability to provide a better mix of rushing and passing than it did a year ago. Friday night’s results appeared to support that assessment. But Barnes didn’t seem that pleased.

Said Barnes: “We pride ourselves on mistake-free football and tonight we were just gross.”
