AVOCADO LEAGUE San Marcos 7, El Camino 0--Quarterback Rick Ebert scored on a 10-yard bootleg around right end to give San Marcos (1-2-1, 1-0) the victory over El Camino (0-4, 0-1). El Camino, which has won four straight league titles, fumbled four times in the second half, including once at the San Marcos 23. San Marcos held the ball the final four minutes of the game.

PALOMAR LEAGUE Mount Carmel 17, Poway 3--The Mount Carmel defense forced five turnovers, including John Tecjek’s 2-yard interception return for a touchdown in the third period, to seal the shutout at Poway. Mount Carmel (1-0, 2-2) limited Poway (0-1, 3-1) to 51 yards rushing. Gannon Tidwell paced the Mount Carmel defense with a fumble recovery and interception. John Ashworth kicked a 22-yard field goal in the third quarter for Poway’s only score.

Torrey Pines 38, Orange Glen 7--Orange Glen (0-1, 3-1) scored first on a 29-yard touchdown pass from quarterback Duffy Daugherty to Scott Carlovsky early in the first period. But Torrey Pines (1-0, 2-2) took over from there in the upset win at San Dieguito High. The Torrey Pines defense limited No. 7 Orange Glen to 95 yards total offense, 34 of those yards on Orange Glen’s scoring series.

NONLEAGUE Lincoln 62, Patrick Henry 16-- Marcus Hopkins carried 13 times for 233 yards and scored twice to lead second-ranked Lincoln (4-0) at Patrick Henry. Remarkably, Patrick Henry (0-4) had a 16-13 advantage with 8:48 to go in the half after a 1-yard touchdown run by Charles Allen. On Lincoln’s next drive Hopkins ran 17 and 34 yards before breaking away 31 yards for a score. On Henry’s next possession, linebacker Kevin Key forced a fumble that Damon Candler picked up and ran 14 yards for a touchdown and a 27-16 Lincoln lead. The rout was on. Key, who doubles at fullback, scored three times on runs of 17, 9 and 3 yards.

Chula Vista 30, Southwest 9--A deflected pass from Brian Murphy to Greg Rylaarsdam turned into a 69-yard scoring play to put sixth-ranked Chula Vista (4-0) out of reach, 22-9. Southwest (1-3) had just cut the score to 15-9 on a 9-yard pass from sophomore Richard Delano to Gary Rowland. Chula Vista running back Sione Fehoko, the county’s top rusher, had 158 yards in 26 carries including a 30-yard touchdown run.

Granite Hills 42, El Capitan 12--Running backs Tom Vardell and Robert Padillo combined for all of Granite Hills’ points as the No. 9 Eagles (3-1) rolled over El Capitan (1-3). Vardell scored on touchdown runs of 1, 41 and 30 yards and Padillo scored on runs of 3, 65 and 6. Padillo also kicked a 40-yard field goal and three extra points. El Capitan got second half touchdowns from Andrew Johns, 6-yard run, and Kurt Wilkins, 50-yard run.

Madison 14, Kearny 0--Martin McNeeley scored on a one-yard run in the third quarter and Terry Anderson blocked a punt and returned it 12 yards for a touchdown in the fourth to lead Madison (3-1) over Kearny (1-3). Jan Edelman kicked both extra points. The Madison defense held Kearny to 63 total yards while recovering three fumbles and recording seven sacks. Jimmy Robinson had 66 yards on 12 carries for Madison.

Mar Vista 21, Montgomery 21--Quarterback Spencer Burnett passed to Xuan Ho for a two-point conversion to give Mar Vista (1-2-1) a tie against Montgomery (2-1-1). Mar Vista’s Gonzalo Quintero ran for two touchdowns, including the one that brought his team back from a 21-13 deficit. Montgomery quarterback Troy Beale threw two touchdown passes.

USDHS 44, St. Augustine 12--Running back Martin Correia of University of San Diego High scored four touchdowns to lead the Dons (4-0) past St. Augustine (1-3). Teammate James Wilson ran for 230 yards in 25 carries, capped by an 84-yard touchdown run. Wilson and fellow defender Kevin Casey also made key interceptions to set up USDHS touchdowns in the third quarter.

Point Loma 27, Crawford 12--Point Loma (3-1) used the big play to score 19 first-half points en route to the win at home. Nick Lutu caught a 59-yard pass from Ace Logan in the first quarter and Kelby Downey ran a flanker counter 36 yards for a second quarter score. John Stanley, who rushed 20 times for 122 yards, added a 5-yard touchdown run to make it 19-0 at the half. Stanley also scored from one-yard out in the fourth quarter. Point Loma’s defense sacked Crawford (2-2) quarterback David Edrozo seven times for 50 yards. Edrozo completed 10 of 27 for 167 yards and touchdowns of 33 yards to Jeremy Horton and 31 yards to Dewey Brown.

Hoover 33, Clairemont 11-- Leading only 14-11 at the half, Hoover used its ground game to pull away in the second half at Hoover. Clairemont (0-4) slowed Hoover running backs Sherman Robinson and Leon Golsten, who combined for 228 yards rushing last week against Santana, but did not stop them. Robinson, who scored 2 touchdowns, had 62 yards in 13 carries and Golsten had 96 yards in 15 carries and 1 touchdown. Hoover (3-1) quarterback Michael Walker and receiver John Roots produced 90 yards in 4 pass completions.

San Diego 14, Mission Bay 0--San Diego Coach Steve Hembera has been rotating junior running backs Damon Carson and Jim Kegler this season and the strategy paid off Friday as the two combined for two touchdowns and 196 yards to lead San Diego (2-2) to the win. Carson, who rushed for 106 yards on 6 carries, opened the scoring with an 84-yard run early in the first period. Kegler (10 carries for 90 yards) scored on a 56-yard run in the third period to seal the victory. San Diego safety David Rex intercepted two passes, bringing his season total to four. Noseguard Mike Gonzalez had two fumble recoveries. Mission Bay is 0-4.

Mount Miguel 10, Grossmont 8--Anthony Williams scored on a touchdown run early in the third quarter to break a 0-0 tie and lead Mount Miguel (2-2) over Grossmont (1-2-1). Mount Miguel added a field goal to take a 10-0 lead after three quarters. Mike Ramsey caught a 15-yard pass from Mark Stilwell for Grossmont.
