Troy Is Forced to Pay Penalty but Stays Unbeaten After Win

Despite numerous penalties, Troy High School remained undefeated with a 27-20 victory over Savanna Friday night at Fullerton District Stadium.

The Warriors had 322 yards, but lost almost half because of 150 yards of penalties. Still, the Warriors were able to advance when it counted. Troy is 5-0, Savanna 3-2.

Fullback Todd Murdock, who gained an impressive 119 yards in 18 carries, scored Troy’s first touchdown on a two-yard run with 8:31 left in the first half. Less than two minutes later, tight end Lenny Wagner grabbed a blocked punt and ran 20 yards for the score.

Savanna, which got a first quarter touchdown from running back Greg Perez, closed to 14-12 with 29 seconds left in the half. Rebel quarterback Tony Osendorf threw the first of two touchdown passes to wide receiver Bill Garcia.

Troy clinched the game in the second half on a 23-yard touchdown run by flanker Tom Wilson and a 4-yard scoring pass from Mike Pawlawsky to halfback Karl Hess.
