Chula Vista 41, Hilltop 14--Sultan Mohammed carried 20 times for 162 yards and three touchdowns to lead No. 5 Chula Vista. Mohammed, who scored on runs of 2, 15 and 22 yards, played for the injured Sieno Fehoko, the No. 3 rusher in the county. Quarterback Brian Murphy was 16-of-30 for 258 yards and three touchdowns for Chula Vista (1-0, 7-0). Clint Walden caught 5 passes for 71 yards to lead Hilltop (0-2, 2-5).

PALOMAR

Vista 40, Orange Glen 14--Vista’s Tommy Booker, who leads the county in rushing, returned an interception 90 yards for a touchdown at Vista. Marc Jones rushed for two touchdowns and Booker added another on the ground for Vista (4-0, 7-0). Orange Glen is 1-2 and 5-2.

Fallbrook 28, Poway 11-- Scott Barrick completed 18 of 36 passes for 222 and 3 touchdowns to lead Fallbrook (1-2, 4-2-1) at home. Paul Escola scored on a 1-yard run for Poway (0-4, 3-4), which has lost its last four games.

AVOCADO

El Camino 10, Carlsbad 0--Mark Paopao led a strong El Camino defense that sacked Carlsbad quarterback Karl Molinar eight times and held him to minus 25 yards rushing at Carlsbad (2-2, 4-3). Garrett Crayton scored on a 50-yard touchdown run in the first quarter for El Camino (2-1, 2-5). Carlsbad’s only scoring threat was halted when Molinar was sacked on fourth and goal from the El Camino 10 in the second quarter. El Camino recorded a safety in the fourth quarter by sacking Molinar in the end zone.

CITY EASTERN

Mira Mesa 21, Serra 0--Quarterback Eddie Allison scored on sneaks of two and one yards to lead Mira Mesa (2-0, 5-2) at Serra (1-1, 2-5). Mira Mesa cornerback Andre Falkquay had two interceptions. Running back Essex Burton, who rushed for 104 yards in 22 carries, wrapped up the scoring with his five-yard run in the third quarter.

Madison 23, Pt Loma 12--Gerald Harris returned two first-half interceptions for touchdowns and Chris Ojeda blocked a punt in the end zone for a safety to lead Madison (1-1, 4-3) over No. 10 Point Loma (0-1-1, 4-2-1). The Madison defense held Pt. Loma running back John Stanley to 31 yards on 13 carries. Harris returned interceptions 24 and 48 yards to give Madison a 14-6 lead at the half.

CITY CENTRAL

Hoover 25, St. Augustine 22--St. Augustine (0-2, 1-6) was first-and-goal at the six-yard line of Hoover (2-0, 6-1) with more than three minutes left to play, but could not score. Hoover running back Sherman Robinson rushed for 118 yards and two touchdowns. Quarterback Mike Walker threw scoring passes of 52 yards to Leon Golston and 30 yards to John Roots for Hoover’s other touchdowns. Quarterback Leon Olais, who completed 19 of 39 passes for 202 yards, kept Saints close in the first half with touchdown passes of 29 and 19 yards to Charlie Applegate. Tony Evenson scored St. Augustine’s final touchdown on a 48-yard punt return.

CITY WESTERN

La Jolla 28, Clairemont 0--La Jolla (2-0, 6-1) scored on a 37-yard pass play from Doug Powell to Brad Raulston in the first half and broke the game open in the second half on touchdown runs of 16 yards by Jon Beck, 2 by John Tribolet and 8 by Bing Manning. Visiting Clairemont (0-2, 0-7) ran out of time on the 4-yard line as the first half ended.

USDHS 30, Mission Bay 13--Martin Correia ran for 196 yards and two touchdowns on 21 carries as USDHS (2-0, 7-0) won at Mission Bay (1-1, 2-5). USDHS also scored on a 13-yard touchdown pass from Anthony Massa to Vic Descanti and a 4-yard run by James Wilson. Jason Hamm scored on a 78-yard fumble return for Mission Bay. The first offensive touchdown for Mission Bay came on the game’s final play, when Sean Rees threw a 25-yard touchdown pass to Larry Gallegos.

Kearny 29, University City 7--Quarterback Scott Welish completed 7 of 14 passes for 150 yards and three touchdowns to lead Kearny (1-1, 3-4) at Mira Mesa. Welish had scoring passes of 15 yards to Mike Provins, 13 to Darrell Hicks and 1 to Lupe Ford. Kearny’s Alan Ring, who rushed for 174 yards in 23 carries, ran 50 yards for a touchdown in the second quarter. University City is 0-2 and 3-3.

GROSSMONT (3A)

Helix 26, Monte Vista 6--Perry Gomez returned an interception 33 yards for one touchdown and Todd Sheehan returned a punt 46 yards for another in the first half to lead Helix (2-0, 5-1-1). Quarterback Richard Garmo passed to James Fraser for a seven-yard touchdown in the second quarter for Monte Vista (0-1, 4-3).

GROSSMONT 2A

El Capitan 29, Valhalla 13--El Capitan intercepted Valhalla quarterback Joe Crisci five times, including two by cornerback Cory Vega, at Monte Vista. El Capitan (1-0, 2-5) took a 15-13 lead midway through the third quarter when quarterback Dan Freeman connected with Wally Pimentel on a 15-yard pass play. On the next series, Troy Lynch intercepted Crisci and ran 20 yards to the Valhalla 23. Two plays later, El Capitan running back Jefferson Love scored from 21 yards out. Valhalla is 0-1 and 3-4.

Grossmont 43, El Cajon 0--Mark Stillwell completed only three passes, but all went for touchdowns at Grossmont (1-0, 3-3-1). He threw two to Ray Bassi, 36 and 26 yards, and one to Jim Eskridge, 22 yards. Zack Kinfather scored two touchdowns and rushed for 93 yards and Eric Batson scored one touchdown and rushed for 123 yards. El Cajon is 0-1, 2-5.

NONLEAGUE

Mar Vista 27, CETYS 14--Gonzalo Quintero rushed for 259 yards and three touchdowns to pace host Mar Vista. Quintero scored on runs of 65, 57 and 11 yards. Mar Vista (2-4-1) was aided by four CETYS turnovers, including two interceptions by safety Rafael Santiago. Playing wide receiver, Santiago scored on a 10-yard pass from Spencer Bernatt in the second quarter.
