Community College Roundup : Golden West Named Top Seed for Regionals in Water Polo

Defending state water polo champion Golden West College has been selected the top-seeded team in the Southern California Regionals Friday and Saturday in Belmont Plaza at Long Beach.

The Rustlers (23-3) were co-champions of the South Coast Conference with second-seeded Long Beach City (24-2).

The single-elimination tournament opens Friday with Golden West playing No. 8 San Diego Mesa (14-7) at 9:30 a.m. No. 4 Cuesta (20-8) plays No. 5 Saddleback (18-6-1) at 11 a.m. and No. 2 Long Beach City plays No. 7 Santa Monica (19-6) at 12:30 p.m.

No. 3 Orange Coast (23-4), which won the Orange Empire Conference, plays No. 6 Rancho Santiago (19-6) at 2 p.m.

The winners of first two matches play in the first semifinal at 6:30 p.m. and the winners of the third and fourth matches play in the other semifinal at 8 p.m.

The championship match is Nov. 15 at 7:30 p.m.

The first and second-place finishers in the eight-team field advance to the state championship Nov. 21-22 at Merced College.
