Don Morton, Tulsa football coach for the last two years, was named head coach at Wisconsin. Morton, 39, was introduced to reporters by Wisconsin Chancellor Irving Shain, who said Morton will have a five-year contract with an annual base salary of $90,000.
Morton succeeds interim coach Jim Hilles, whose Badgers struggled to a 3-9 season, their worst since they went 0-10 in 1968. Hilles was named to the interim post after the death of Coach Dave McClain last April.
In addition to his salary, Morton will receive an automobile and a country club membership, paid by gifts through contributions to the athletic department, Shain said.
