Girls Basketball : Fullerton Posts Win Over Irvine

Senior guard Heidi Shikuma scored 20 points to lead Fullerton High School to a 44-27 victory over Irvine Monday in the first round of the Brea-Olinda Tournament at Brea-Olinda High School. Senior forward Vicki Silva added 16 points for the Indians (3-2).

In other Brea Tournament games:

Woodbridge 64, Loara 44--Forwards Gilly Powell and Kathy Millat each scored 18 points to lead the Warriors (4-1) to a first-round victory over the Saxons (1-1). Jenny Jensen scored an additional 13 points and had 15 rebounds for Woodbridge. Guards Randee Mahony and Nina Hansen each had six steals. Senior Carolyn Osato led Loara with 20 points.

Brea-Olinda 89, Canyon 27--Susan Tousey, a 6-foot 2-inch junior center, played only three quarters but scored 20 points to lead the Wildcats (4-1). Kristen McPhee provided an additional 12 for Brea-Olinda.

Esperanza 50, El Modena 47--With Laura Jones sidelined with a sprained ankle, junior Karen Davidson scored 16 points and had 10 rebounds to lead Esperanza to victory.

In the Beverly Hills Tournament:

Beverly Hills 42, Estancia 40--Tina Tamura scored 25 points and made 6 of 7 free throws in the fourth quarter to lead Bevelry Hills.

Huntington Beach 49, El Segundo 17--Tami Chick scored 18 points to lead the Oilers.

Marina 52, Bellflower 37--Temre Kuester scored 13 points to lead the Vikings.

In nonleague action:

Ocean View 49, Los Amigos 24--Cyndi Hurzeler and Erika Whistler scored 10 points each for Ocean View. Amy Pearson led the Lobos with 10 points at Los Amigos High School.

Walden 35, Claremont 2--Diana Courdullo led Walden (1-2) with eight points in the game at Claremont. Junior Kirstan Banks scored Claremont’s only basket.
