Orange County Community College Basketball : Cerritos, Riverside Earn Easy Wins

Cerritos College, the top-ranked community college team in Southern California, and Riverside City College scored easy victories Wednesday night in the first-round of the Golden West Invitational basketball tournament at Golden West.

Riverside (8-5), defending tournament champion, beat Antelope Valley, 96-79. The Tigers were led by guard Mike Stewart and forwards Sam Robinson and Greg Mathews, each with 16 points. Forward Ice Lewis led the Marauders (1-8) with 18.

Cerritos beat fifth-ranked Glendale, 87-70. Sophomore forward Willie Joseph, a first-team All-South Coast Conference player last season, led the Falcons (7-0) with 26 points. Guard Bryan Williams added 15 points and 10 assists. The Vaqueros (6-1) were led by David Djolakian with 14 points.

In a nonconference game:

Fullerton 103, Pomona Pitzer (Freshmen) 67-- Alan Fraser had 20 points and Bart Hakeman added 10 as the Hornets (7-2) rolled to the victory at Fullerton. Five players scored in double figures for Fullerton, which led at halftime, 52-35.

In a women’s game:

Saddleback 63, San Diego Mesa 60--Dina Graham scored 21 points, Debbie Hartwig added 17 and Julie Monaghan 13 as Saddleback ran its record to 5-4 with a victory at San Diego Mesa.
