San Diego High School Basketball : Clairemont Takes Advantage as Fallbrook Shooting Cools Off

SAN DIEGO — Clairemont High School’s basketball team took advantage of poor shooting by Fallbrook in the second half for a 57-40 victory in a Torrey Pines high school tournament.
Fallbrook made only 8 of 29 shots in the second half as Clairemont broke open a close game. Clairemont center Vic Baer led all scorers with 18 points. Jason Deal added 16 and Giordano finished with 11 for Clairemont (6-1).
Fallbrook (2-3) was led by Doug Witkop (11 points) and Elideo Escobedo (10).
In another tournament game:
Torrey Pines 95, Carlsbad 62--Scot Thompson scored 20 points and had 10 rebounds to lead undefeated Torrey Pines (5-0). Guard Tom Underwood added 15 points for Torrey Pines. Carlsbad (1-4) was led by 14 points from Bruce Campbell. Torrey Pines is averaging 80 points a game.
Poway 46, El Capitan 45--Guard Gary Anderson scored 18 points and forward Adam Jones added 12 for Poway (3-0), three-time defending San Diego Section 3-A champion. Jason Berkshire led El Capitan with 14 points. El Capitan missed a shot with five seconds left.
