After Bosworth Apology, Coach Will Reconsider

Oklahoma Coach Barry Switzer, saying he was was so impressed with an apology by All-America linebacker Brian Bosworth, said Tuesday that he will leave open the door for Bosworth to return to the Sooners next season.

Switzer on Monday said the controversial linebacker would not return to Oklahoma for his final season of eligibility next year. Bosworth then issued a statement Monday apologizing for his outspoken comments made during the past season.

Switzer, saying he was impressed with Bosworth’s statement, said Tuesday that if Bosworth does not choose to enter the NFL draft this spring, “he and I will discuss his possible future participation at a later date.”

Bosworth, two-time winner of the Dick Butkus Award, presented annually to the nation’s top linebacker, was suspended from the Orange Bowl game against Arkansas on New Year’s Day after testing positive for anabolic steroids.
