The Kenyon College women’s swimming team lost to College of Wooster Saturday night because of a swimmer who couldn’t divide, one who couldn’t dive and a third who couldn’t float.

Wooster won the meet, 135-130, by sweeping the final event, the 400-yard freestyle relay. With each school entering three teams in the race, the Lady Scots needed to finish first and second to win the meet.

Each of Kenyon’s three teams was disqualified. The first team was eliminated when the second of four swimmers stopped after 50 yards, failing to realize each leg was 100 yards long. The second disqualification came when the second swimmer dove into the pool atop the first participant, and the third was called when one of the swimmers--noticing the other two teams had stopped--ceased swimming and touched the bottom of the pool too long.

The loss was the first of the season to a Division III school for Kenyon, a team that had remained composed enough to win the last five NCAA Division III championships.
