CITY CENTRAL LEAGUE

Lincoln 80, Crawford 58--Lincoln (8-1, 15-8) clinched its second consecutive league championship with the easy victory over Crawford. Lincoln’s full-court press allowed the Hornets to outscore Crawford, 20-12, in the opening period. Five Lincoln players scored in double figures, including Kenny Thompson (15 points). Crawford is 3-6 and 6-15.

St. Augustine 57, Christian 55--Charlie Applegate scored on an eight-foot jumper with 20 seconds remaining to provide the margin of victory at Christian. Applegate led all scorers with 24 points. Doug Carter added 14 points for St. Augustine (5-4, 13-7), which moved back into playoff contention with the win. David Jeremiah paced Christian (6-3, 16-7) with 14 points.

Hoover 72, San Diego 39--Tyrone Bell scored 17 points and Tony Thomas added 14 to lead Hoover (5-4, 10-14), which took a 39-22 lead at the half. Anthony Wines paced San Diego (0-9, 0-18) with 11.

CITY WESTERN LEAGUE

Clairemont 53, La Jolla 40--Ray McDavid scored 18 points to keep Clairemont in the race for the league title. Clairemont (6-3, 16-6) outscored La Jolla, 14-5, in the fourth quarter for the victory. Lamont Jackson added 12 points for Clairemont. Sean Rodgers led La Jolla (4-5, 13-9) with 13 points and 12 rebounds. Adam Kleid also had 13 points for La Jolla.

Kearny 61, Mission Bay 47--Kearny, which had lost three straight going into this game, fell behind, 15-6, after the first quarter. But the Komets rallied to outscore Mission Bay, 20-9, in the second period and stayed in a first-place tie with Clairemont. Dion Osborn scored 21 points and Randy Robinson added 17 to lead Kearny (6-3, 17-6). Rick Hurley led Mission Bay (3-6, 7-11) with 10 points.

GROSSMONT LEAGUE

Valhalla 62, Helix 50--Rafid Kiti scored 22 points and Dan Chase added 20 to lead Valhalla (11-3, 15-5). Valhalla played without leading scorer Troy Toolson (17.3 points a game), who has a pulled tendon in his left foot. Helix outscored Valhalla, 19-2, in the second half but it wasn’t enough. Tim Zeddies led Helix (2-13, 5-17) with 14 points.

Mount Miguel 72, Santana 59--Anthony Rivera scored 23 points and center Mike Flores added 18 as Mount Miguel (12-3, 14-7) stayed in first place by a half game. Haywood Mathis added 12 points for Mount Miguel, which got its 10th straight league victory. Tim Barry paced Santana (6-8, 10-11) with 17 points.

Monte Vista 66, Grossmont 58--Scott Winne led a second-half surge as Monte Vista came from a six-point halftime deficit. Winne scored all 14 of his points in the second half for Monte Vista (14-5, 11-3). Wayne Hallman had 15 points and 13 rebounds and James Gotell and James Fraser added 12 each for Monte Vista. Lance Williams scored 16 points for Grossmont (6-8, 9-12) and Greg Berman added 14.

METRO CONFERENCE

Sweetwater 67, Marian 58--Guard Scott Catlin set a school record for assists with 18 as Sweetwater won its ninth straight Metro-Mesa League title. Mahlon Williams scored a game-high 29 points to lead Sweetwater (10-1, 13-9). Joe McDowell added 11 points and Brent Lawrence 10 for Sweetwater. David Lavenslager scored 15 and Chris Hazeltine added 14 for Marian (4-7, 7-12).

Hilltop 73, Montgomery 33--Hilltop (6-5, 13-12) dominated throughout, outscoring Montgomery, 26-5, in the final period. Hilltop’s Judd Rachow had 28 points and 13 rebounds and Bryan Brooker had 12 points and 13 rebounds. Montgomery is 3-8, 4-14.

Castle Park 90, Mar Vista 57--Vince Bucca and Javier Nunez scored 23 points apiece to lead Castle Park (11-0, 18-4). John Stanton added 18 points for Castle Park. Eric Syverson paced Mar Vista (3-8, 6-17) with 17 points.

Chula Vista 51, Bonita Vista 39--Chula Vista’s victory created a three-way tie in the Metro Conference between Bonita Vista, Chula Vista and Hilltop, all 6-5. Chula Vista is 14-10 overall and Bonita Vista is 9-12.

AVOCADO LEAGUE

Carlsbad 76, Escondido 65--Carlsbad’s man defense in the second half sealed the inside from Escondido and allowed host Carlsbad to outscore the Cougars, 44-32. Shaun Stoll had 25 points and 9 rebounds and Karl Molinar added 20 points and 9 rebounds to pace Carlsbad (3-8, 5-16). John Lovett scored 23 points for Escondido (4-4, 7-10).

GIRLS

GROSSMONT LEAGUE

Santana 45, Mount Miguel 43--Leslie Ellis hit a pair of free throws in the final seconds to lift Santana (13-1, 17-4) to the victory. Mount Miguel led, 37-30, midway through the third period but Santana rallied to a 39-38 deficit at the end of the period. Mount Miguel is 8-7 and 12-10.
