Southern Section administrators announced Friday that Westlake High, currently ranked No. 2 behind Royal in the Southern Calif. High School Soccer Coaches’ Assn. poll, will be seeded first when the boys 4-A Division playoffs begin Thursday.

Westlake and Royal, members of the Marmonte League, split two regular-season matches and finished tied for first in league play. Based on an involved tie-breaking method used by the Southern Section, Westlake was seeded ahead of Royal.

Westlake, which finished the season 19-1-2, and Royal, which finished 20-1-2, likely will be placed in different brackets, setting up a possible showdown for the title, Westlake first-year Coach Mike Williams said.

“There’s a chance we might have to play them again, in the finals, if we both win all our games,” Williams said.

The Southern Section will announce the playoff pairings and game sites Monday.

Plans Under Way for Next Boulevard Run

Organizers of last month’s inaugural Boulevard Run already are planning for another half-marathon next year, but it doesn’t seem likely it will become a full marathon. Organizers say they don’t want to compete with the L.A. Marathon.

Organizers this week donated nearly $2,000 in proceeds from the race to St. Joseph’s Medical Center and the Just Say No drug-diversion program.
