Community College Roundup : Cypress’ Silvey Strikes Out 11 in 3-1 Victory Over El Camino

Erik Silvey pitched a complete game and struck out 11 to lead Cypress College to a 3-1 nonconference baseball victory over El Camino Friday at Cypress.
Silvey, a sophomore right-hander, gave up six hits and walked one.
Cypress took a 1-0 lead on Mike Parker’s home run in the third inning. In the eighth, Rick Nen singled in Parker and Mike Faddoul to break a 1-1 tie.
In Casey Stengel Tournament action:
Scottsdale 5, Rancho Santiago 4--The Dons (6-2) scored a run in the ninth but could get no more and were eliminated. Wade Clester hit a two-run home run in the sixth, and Brent Reese went 3 for 4 with two doubles and a single for Rancho Santiago.
Rancho Santiago 1, San Diego Southwestern 0--Dave Kirkpatrick scored on an error in the seventh for the Dons. Dave Salcido (2-0) gave up four hits and had 11 strikeouts in the complete-game victory.
In other nonconference action:
Golden West 16, Hancock College 4--Darren Thomasick went 2 for 4 with three RBIs and George Lazalde went 3 for 4 with a single, double and triple and one RBI for the Rustlers at Huntington Beach. Terry Reichetert had a two-run pinch-hit single during the six-run seventh for Golden West (3-1).
In Western Arizona Tournament women’s softball:
Golden West 4, Phoenix 3--Karen Nakamura tripled in two runs and scored on an error to tie the score at 3 in the sixth, and Kelly Winkler singled in the winning run in the seventh for the Rustlers (3-1). Kathy Fogg (2-0) was the winning pitcher.
Golden West 6, Glendale 0--Char Schmitt hit a home run for the Rustlers in the victory over the Arizona team. Robin Bolkelman (1-0) was the winning pitcher.
In Rancho Santiago Tournament action:
Fullerton 1, Rancho Santiago 0--Liz Cervantes drove in the winning run in the seventh for the Hornets. Annette Gonzales (3-0) pitched a five-hitter for Fullerton.
