SOUTHERN SECTION BASKETBALL PLAYOFFS : 5-A Roundup

Marina 62, Loyola 55--Marina guard Matt Hattabaugh scored eight points in the third quarter to lead the Viking rally at Marina. With less than a minute remaining, center Mark Georgeson scored from the inside to tie the score, 52-52.

Marina, led by Georgeson with 10 of his total 19 points, continued to dominate, outscoring Loyola 20-8 in the fourth quarter. The Vikings (23-4) were helped by Hattabaugh and Steve Guild with 16 points each. Georgeson, who has sat out of the last three games with bronchitis, added 11 rebounds.

Servite 72, Bosco Tech 52--The Friars (14-11) used a well-balanced attack to defeat the Tigers (21-6) at Servite. Tony Smalley led Servite with 18 points and five rebounds. James Rollins came off the bench to add 14 points and eight rebounds and Shawn Sullivan had 13.

Servite will play Millikan Friday in a second-round game.

Bosco Tech was led Tom Takeshita with 15 points and Carlos Carrillo with 13.
