Mater Dei Meets St. Monica Wednesday
Mater Dei High School, the two-time defending 5-A champion, will meet St. Monica at 7 p.m. Wednesday in the semifinals of the Southern Section basketball playoffs in the Sports Arena.
Mater Dei (26-1) has been designated the home team. St. Monica (20-6) will make its first appearance in the semifinals since it won the 1-A title in 1979.
Lakewood (19-7) will meet Moore League rival Long Beach Millikan (23-3) in the second game at 8:45.
In the 3-A division, Corona del Mar (24-6) will play host to top-seeded Rolling Hills (25-3) starting at 7:30 p.m. Tuesday at Orange Coast College.
In the 2-A division, third-seeded Woodbridge (23-5) lost a coin flip and will play Victor Valley (21-5) at Apple Valley High at 7:30 p.m. Tuesday.
