Andy Silvestro of Simi Valley High pinned Wallace Gonzales of Rosemead in just 1 minute, 59 seconds, Saturday to win the 194-pound division in the CIF Master’s wrestling championships at Fountain Valley High.
Silvestro (36-2) and the next five finishers qualified for the state championships, which will be held next Friday and Saturday in Fresno.
To gain the championship, Silvestro pinned Ron Blackistone of Magnolia in 4:45 of the first round, defeated Anaheim Canyon’s Ken Gominsky in a 6-3 decision in the quarterfinals, and beat Edison’s Bill Dorman, 14-2, in the semifinals. Silvestro had lost to Gominsky earlier this season.
