SAN DIEGO SECTION BASKETBALL CHAMPIONSHIPS : Morse Boys Favored

For the first time in three seasons, a new champion will be crowned in the San Diego Section 3-A boys’ basketball playoffs in the San Diego Sports Arena. Poway, the three-time champion, will be supplanted tonight by either top-seeded Morse or Monte Vista.

The Morse-Monte Vista game, scheduled for 8:30 p.m., will be preceded by two other boys’ section finals. In the 1-A championship, Calipatria--a loser in last year’s 1-A final--will meet La Jolla Country Day. In the boys’ 2-A final at 4:30, Oceanside and El Camino will renew their rivalry. Last year, El Camino beat Oceanside for the 2-A title, 61-35.
